Can I get non medicated colored contact lenses? Do I need a prescription?

Ok I have had a couple of helpful answers but it doesn't completly explain it. So do I still need a prescription? Or can I go to my eye doctor get my eyes sized for the colored contacts? I don't want them medicated, so can I get non medicated ones? Will they hurt my eyes or improve my vision even if they aren't medicated? Am I aloud to take them out if they don't get enought oxygen, then put them back in when they feel better? And lastly, will my eyes be purmatly damaged, and will it be able to be fixed and how costly would it be if I had to get it fixed?

So sorry for all of the questions, I'm a first time buyer, and I want to be sure of what is ahead of me.

Thank you much!

  1. (Lots of mis-spellings).

Contacts are not medicated.  They contain a prescription, but not medicine.

You can get plano contact lenses.  Plano means they have no power and you will not notice a difference in your vision.

You will need to see an optometrist to be fitted.  Your eyes are unique and will need to be measured so the lenses will fit comfortably.  That will cost you around $50-$100.

You will need to work up to wearing contacts all day.  What I mean is that the first day wear them for an hour and take them out for 6.  Every couple days increase wearing time by an hour.  If your eyes are irritated, take them out and try later in the day.

Plano lenses will not hurt your eyes. (but don't wear them beyond recommended wear time).

Ask your optometrist about maximum wear time, cleaning, and storing options.  Always ask for a trial pair before committing to a brand or color.  Most places can get them for free or for a minimal charge.

    Good Luck.
