Question:

Can I get out of my jury duty summon?

I had one earlier in the year and I had it rescheduled to this summer because I did not want it to interfere with my schoolwork. I remember it was supposed to be rescheduled for July so that is what I am waiting for. I just received another one that is for this month. I'm wondering if I have to go to both, or just pick one. I didn't know it would be possible for my name to be picked twice if I already had one scheduled for later.

  1. Depends on the state and county you are in. You need to call the county courthouse and ask them.

  2. If you have two requests that you report for Jury Duty, call the Clerk of the Court immediately and get an official clarification. Take nothing for granted where a Court is concerned.

  3. Yes your name came out of a list of names where they pick people from by a computer that randomly generates a number then goes down the list and pulls every X name.Once you have served then you should be exempt for 3 to 5 years depending on local law. take both summons to court with you when you go this month. They will tell you which one you will have to obey. Note: You have all the rights and privileges of American Citizenship so you must honor your responsibilities that go with American Citizenship.
