Question:

Can I get out of this "At the beach" contract?

A month ago I decided I wanted to tan a little so I went to a place called At The Beach in Oklahoma City. I specifically asked to be signed up for a month by month plan and was given some paper work to fill out that I thought was for my account information. I went back today and found out that I was put onto a 24 month plan and owe them over $750.

They told me the only way that I could close the contract would be to move 25 miles away from one of their locations. The corporate office was completely unhelpful and condescending.

Is there anyway at all I can get out of this contract? Looking around the internet I've found that tons of people are having problems with this.

  1. It's going to take a lawyer. You signed a contract. Your argument is that the contract did not say what you agreed to. However, it will be tricky as it is your responsibility to read a contract before signing.

  2. read what you signed. did you sign a contract? if not, you do not have to pay. they can attempt to take you to court but if you don't use the service, they will not have a leg to stand on!

  3. why not contact those other people in the same boat? seems like they know more then we would.
