Question:

Can I get sick from being a vegetarian with poor supplement?

I've been a vegetarian for 10 months now. Recently I got sick and it's been going on for a couple days with few signs of improvement.

I'm a very bad vegetarian because I don't really take vitamins like I should and I eat replacement meats occasionally, but rarely feel like it.

I know that's like really dangerous and I plan to fix that, but do you think this sickness could be caused by that? And what kind of symptoms would I have? Or maybe is it just because I have a bad immune system from the lack of protein and other supplements I need?

I'm just reaching out here, I don't know. Is there anyone that can help me because I'm starting to get kind of scared by this?

  1. no.

  2. All I can tell you is I have an aunt who is a vegetarian and it seems like she's always sick.  She seems to catch every bug that comes around, and it takes her at least twice as long to kick it.  It's strange because she takes vitamins religiously every day.  Don't know if eating replacement meats or some other type of protein will work because she hasn't tried it -- she only eats soy protein.  I don't recommend soy for you because soy is loaded with estrovens (female hormones), so eating too much soy can give you "man-b***s."  I'd recommend getting on track with your vitamins and supplements once you kick this bug, and make sure you exercise regularly if you don't already.  That'll give your immune system a boost.

  3. The vitamin supplements are not important. You have to learn what you need to eat to get proper nutrition for a vegetarian.

    1. Eat whole grains and dried beans together to get essential amino acids (Proteins)

    2. Eat Iron rich foods with Vitamin C rich foods to prevent iron-deficiency

    3. If you are a lacto-vegetarian, drink 2 to 3 cups of milk every day. Otherwise, drink Soy-milk fortified with Calcium, Vitamin D and Vitamin B12.

    4. Eat a hanful of walnuts or Pistachios to get Omega 3, another essetial fatty acid.

  4. Everything you need can easily be found in a vegetarian diet so you just must be eating horribly.  If you ate healthy, there is no need for vitamins and as far as protein goes, that's not even an issue with a vegetarian diet.

If you have any deficiencies, it's not caused by being vegetarian, it's caused by an unbalanced diet and TROLLING.

  5. no, vegetarians never get sick ever. they basically become super humans who are immune to disease.

  6. All nutrients, including protein, are easily obtained from a vegetarian diet.  If you eat well, supplements are not necessary.  If you have an unhealthy lifestyle, you will get sick more often- whether or not you consume meat.

Vegetarianism does not cause illness.  Vegetarians have much lower rates of type 2 diabetes, colon cancer, heart disease, and all digestive disorders.  They also live an average of 6.5 years longer.

No corresponding data exists for trolls.

  7. yeah you actually might not be getting the proper nutrition that you should. it doesnt just happen to vegetarians but to anyone with non proper nutrition. to see if its from not eating properly with your vegetarian diet try eating healtheir for maybe a week or two and see how you feel. Try having things such as soy bars, nuts, tofu, meat replacemnts like veggie burgers, fruit, soy crisps, vegetables and healthy things like that. Idk if you feel really tired and stuff but when i first became vegetarian i wasent getting enough vitamin b12. its found in dairy prodcuts and meat but of coarse we dont get it from meat and i guess i wasent having enough dairy so i started taking a vitamin b12 suppelment. you can get it from cvs or something and its cheap. also try taking a multi-vitamin like centrum once aday. see how u feel after doing this, if you still feel sick try going to the doctor im sure they could help, hope this helps =)
