English is my second language. I'm working with a reading book from which I got the next sentence "The new ski-lift runs at the resort meant less crowding on the slopes, so more visitors flocked to the resort." Can someone tell me with more details what the sentence is talking about? Thanks.

  1. meant is the past tense of mean

The purpose of the new ski lift was less crowding.

When the ski lift was installed, the result was produced.

The ski lift was installed in the past.  The result happened in the past.

    Keep this in mind

The new ski lift will be installed tomorrow and this will mean less crowding tomorrow. = the result will come in the future

The new ski lift was installed last week.  The result of this action last week meant less crowding.  = past

  2. What throws you off is the present simple of Run (runs is the ONLY correct thing there., The sentence has wrong tense,.

It says the new ski lift runs at the resort means less crowding on the slops so more visitors tend to flock to the reseort.

    Meaning>

Becuase of the new ski lift more people flock or go to the resort and more people with a new ski lift means that it is more efficient.

The person who wrot e that sentence does NOT know English.

  3. a ski lift is a bench that takes people in the air to the top of the mountain so there are not people climbing back up

  4. This sentence means there was a new ski-lift built at the resort.  As a result, there weren't as many lines for the ski-lifts so more people came because they wouldn't have to wait as long for a lift
