Can I get some sort of new birth certificate if I was adopted?

I got adopted when I was 14 and all I have is the adoption decree which is 3 full pages long. The thing is that now I live in Europe and it is a mess every time they ask me for my birth certificate; I can not show my original birth certificate because my biological parents are not my legal parents anymore. There must be something I can get besides the adoption decree. If anyone has been in this situation or know anything about this stuff please let me know. thank you

By the way i got adopted in the state of Florida, I wasn't born in the US but my adoptive father is American.

  1. your father should be able to call the state of florida and get the correct birth certificate issued...here is the site to go to to order one

    http://www.vitalrec.com/fl.html

  2. you should have already been issued an amended birth certificate that states the legal parents names.

What happens when you apply for your birth certificate?

  3. We could not travel to Canada until our dds adoption was complete because we were not listed on her birthcertificate. It would have made it very complicated to get back into the US. You need to contact the bureau of vital statistics in the state of Florida.....or go to the nearest US Embassy. This sounds very complicated. And I am sorry you have so much trouble. It is possible that you need to be issued a birthcertificate from the country you were born? If all this fails you should contact a lawyer who handles internation adoption law.

    Good Luck!

You will have to get an amended birthcertificate

  4. There should be an amended BC in the town/city that you were adopted.  It will still indicate that you were born wherever you were born, but it will list your adoptive parents in place of your biological parents.  If you are over 18, you can petition the town/city where you were born to see the Original Birth Certificate.  However, I believe that the amended one has now become the OFFICIAL BC (not positive about that).

  5. you can get the amended birth certificate from the state you were adopted in.

  6. The adoption decree should be sufficient
