Question:

Can I get something registered without a title?

I bought a motorcycle a while ago but never got a title as the guy who bought it never got one. It's a 125cc off/on road bike, so not having a title still lets you use it off-road.

I'm wanting to get it registered to use it on the road, so can I apply for a lost title without ever having a title in the first place? What if anything can I do to get this registered?

  1. In michigan you can file for a lost title and a cop will come and check the vin to make sure its not stolen and sign your paper from the dmv. If its not stolen you take the paper back to the dmv and they will send you a title. Call the dmv and ask them how to file for a lost title.

  2. You are screwed.

Title is THE certificate of ownership.  You cannot do what you want, because that is exactly what a thief would want to do.

The person (owner) on the title is the ONLY person who can request the replacement - until it is transfered.

You should have never bought it without a title.  For all you know it is stole (or not).  You just don't know.

    good Luck...
