I got an offer to work in Canada for a US company for part of the week and work at home in MI for the rest of the week. I am on a restricted license until mid-September and only have a paper license. Can I get an Identification card from the Sec of State? Thanks in advance for the help.

  1. do you have a work permit to work in Canada?

  2. You may need to ask this question in one of the US categories, since it is the US secretary of state that would issue an ID.  However, if  you contact the Canadian Border Services Agency (do a search for them online and you will find the site and contact information, including a phone number), and someone there should be able to tell you if your restricted license is ok.  Then you will need to check with the US border services to make sure it is ok for re-entering the US.

  3. The driver licence question is secondary.

Do you have permission,  on paper,  from the Government of Canada, to WORK in Canada ? If not, stay in Michigan.

I bet that US company  is trying to SNEAK you into Canada with out getting the  proper papers.
