Question:

Can I glue the plastic k***s back on to the metal pins on my gas bbq?

I pulled the plastic k***s off my gas bbq trying to get it in my car. This resulted in the metal things that keep the k***s secure coming out or snapping and the k***s now just spin without any purchase on the metal pin that regulates the gas. Can I safely glue these k***s back on and what should I use, eg something heat resistant?

  1. hope i've imagined whats going on with your k***s right!

If you cant find the  little metal spring bits, try putting a cable tie or a jubilee clip (s***w tight hose clip) around the plastic socket on the back of the k**b, make it really tight, then cut a little piece of metal/tin can lid to fit into the flat side of the 'D' shape of the socket. Pack between the metal and the tie/clip with a matchstick or offcuts from the cable tie.

That will be as functional as the origional. but more robust.

If you glue it, it'll just get messy, and the plastic, metal and glue will all have different expansion rates summer to winter, which will weaken it.

  2. JB weld will do it..just careful so it dont drip beneath the k***s onto the stem where it turns at the grill front..The k***s do not absorb enough heat to hurt the JB weld

  3. I would buy new k***s.  If it is a new grill it should be easy to order them or look in more hardware stores to find k***s with a set s***w.

  4. going be hard to find anything that sticks to plastic-try jb weld or hard as nails- anything that will harden up-scuff plastic up with file for bonding-not much heat in area-might be better off looking parts up and order new one be done with it
