  1. sometimes it is true. if you buy the oranges from the store and take the seeds out and use those it PROBABLY wont make oranges. sometimes it does, but it isnt according to the grower, but according to the tree.

you can buy the seeds online or at a nursury and if it has the name of the plant will be able to produce fruit.

  2. when you plant citrus seeds a lot of times you will get a copy of the mother plant but out of those there may be one with a completely different look to it and that will most likely taste like c**p. but most people just do budding and grow it like that. some people prefer the graft though.

  3. Well, they often will produce fruit but that fruit can be very variable. Most of the commercial varieties are grown from grafting onto rootstock. Same for the ones you get at the nursery. There are 2 types of seeds with citrus, mono and polyembrionic. Mono will produce a plant that is a genetic mix of the seed and pollen parents and usually don't come "true to type". Poly's will produce more than 1 seedling per seed and have a greater chance of being true. There is a way around this, growing from cuttings. Citrus cuttings tend to strike very easily and are a genetic duplicate of the plant you take them from.

Some of the species tend to come true from seed like Kafir lime and African Cherry oranges. Your best bet all around is to by a named variety fom a reliable grower. the one below is the best in the States.
