I have some acreage in North West Missouri (growing zone 4-5). I know bamboo will grow in my area. Will Moso or Yanchi bamboo grow here? I would like to commercially grow a green building material.

  1. In NC there are lots of mature Bamboo patches, they don't do so wel when exposed to full sun or when ytou cut some down. You can try it form seed but it may be to cold up there.

  2. I think moso would be growable but it wouldnt get very big. Moso is usually hardy to zone6 but you could try if u already bought it. If you want it that bad you could consiter moving to zone 8 or 7 places like arkansas. If you dont need it that bad then try some other types of bamboo that may not get as big but are hardier. Sorry to disapoint you =[.

  3. still believe in santa and the easter bunny too?  what, are you nuts. the answer is no

  4. I am able to grow bamboo in zone 6a, but I think zone 4-5 is pushing it for a timber bamboo. If you heavily mulch you bamboo over winter, put a tent over it, and try every thing possible to keep it from dropping below 0degrees, it might be possible, but don't expect anything more than 20 feet.

    Try it out anyways.
