  1. Yes you can, but there are potential technical conflict issues that "may" arise.  Often it is not a problem.

I use and test a dozen different VoIP services.

Some are using soft-phones on my PC and some are using an ATA VoIP adapter box completely separate from my PC and only connected directly to my router.

The potential conflicts depends on the services that you subscribe to and the "Ports" that those services use.

Port 5060 is the "standard" SIP port used by many VoIP services.  If you have two services running simultaneously, and both services want to use port 5060, there is potential conflict and the result is often "unpredictable results".

I had this happen when I used SIP-based soft-phones on my PC that used ports 5060 and my ATA telephone adapter was also configured to use port 5060.  When I got calls on the PC, my ATA started acting up and being unreliable.  And, vise-versa.

Some soft-phones don't use standard port 5060 and thus do not conflict with those that do.

For example, Skype does not use port 5060/5061.

Gizmo Project (Gizmo5) does not use port 5060/5061.

Google Talk does not use port 5060/5061

Thus, there is never conflicts between any of those services with other SIP services that use ports 5060 or 5061.

So, it just depends.  Just be aware of the potential conflicts some services "may" experience...

    --------------------------------------...

I just checked the MJ FAQ's.  They specifically indicate they use standard web ports 80, 443 and SIP port 5061.

    http://www.magicjack.com/faq/

As most SIP devices default to port 5060, then MJ isn't likely to have a conflict with other devices already using port 5060.

However, many ATA's have and use two ports.  In which case, typically, Line-1 will default to port 5060, and Line-2 will default to 5061.  If a person were to be using both lines on their ATA (like I do), then potential conflict would exist between the ATA line-2 service and MagicJack....

For example, my Linksys PAP2T ATA is configured for service with InPhonex on line-1 and CallCentric service on Line-2.

So, if I were to use MJ, I would have potential conflict with my CallCentric service on line-2, because Line-2 defaults to using port-5061... just like MJ.

  2. yes...you can!!

I have Packet8 and MagicJack....all at the same time...no problem!

while the P8 is directly connected to the modem/workswitch/router....but the MJ is directly connected to the USB port....!

    I also use skype....
