Can I have a 'one of spades'?

Question

Bruised jaw from calling Ace of Spades the One of Spades. Why is the card playing number 'one' called an 'ACE' please?

[do not worry about the jaw. Was I asking for it]

its called the ace because there is an  A  on it. if it was called the ONE then it would have a ONE on it.  stick to what things are called. it might save the jaw.

the ace can never be the one of spades because it is actually two values, the ace has got a value of 1 and 11, thats what gives it its name, while it may be the one it is also the 11, so better to call it an ace

The death card! An ace can be 11 or can be 1-you  can't say the one of spades for the same reason you can't say the 11 of spades-it would get confusing!

You aren't wrong really, but next time you are playing poker, just think it-don't say it aloud!

Same reason a golf club isn't called a 'stick'! All sports and games have their own terminology, and it just so happens that for playing cards, the 1 (or 11, depending on the game) is called an Ace.

i am not sure why it is known as a ace but i don't see why you can't call it one of spades.
