  1. You can have an HSA as long as you also have a qualified high deductible health plan (HDHP) and you are not covered by any other plan. One nice thing about the HSA is that you can use the money you place into the HSA to pay for qualified expenses that go beyond the deductible. Much like a FSA you may have had with an employer the HSA money can be spent on things like over the counter medications, eye exams and dental work. Even though the HDHP would only cover you, the HSA money can be spent on your family members qualified medical expenses.


  2. Yes, you can.  Oftentimes family member are on different health insurance plans for various reasons including pregnancy and/or health concerns.  You would have a separate deductible from her.
