  1. Twelve month's ago, victory went to Charl Schwartzel and the South African is predictably amongst the favourites this week, with 11/2 the best on offer. Favouritism, however, goes to 2009 winner Retief Goosen (5/1 Paddy Power), who was last seen pushing Ernie Els all the way to the finish line in the South African Open Championship the other side of Christmas. Open champion Louis Oosthuizen - a top priced 9/1 with Skybet - completes the trio of players at single figures.

All three will be familiar with this week's track, which at just under 6,8000 yards is pretty short by modern standards. Expect scoring to be low - Schwartzel's winning score was 20 under - and play over the four reachable par-5s will be key to shooting a low number. The wind is expected to be a factor.

    My Three Off The Tee:-

    Charl Schwartzel @ 11/2 bet365
The trio of South Africans at the head of the market look head and shoulders above the rest of the field and I would expect one of them to be lifting the trophy come Sunday. The Goose won this in 2009 and comes into this in decent form, while Oosthuizen gave up the chance to play for $1m plus in Hawaii for slimmer pickings here. Preference, though, is for defending champion Schwartzel, who has finished second (to Pablo Martin at Leopard Creek) and third (to Els) on his last two starts and clearly likes the set up here. He's a win only price but I wouldn't put anyone off combining him in an each-way double with Geoff Ogilvy (8/1 bet365), my main selection for the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, which is previewed elsewhere.

    Gareth Maybin @ 33/1 Skybet
There's not much strength in depth to this field but Maybin could give backers a run for their money and, at over 8/1 an place, he's worth including in the staking plan. Granted, he is making his debut at The East London Club but he's performed well in this part of the world before, most notably when runner-up in the 2009 South African Open Championship, and handles windy conditions as he showed when second in last season's Ballantine's Championship, which was played in a gale for most part. He looks a ready-made winner of one these early season events.

    George Coetzee @ 125/1 Boylesports
To win at golf in the long term, you need to take the best prices week in week out and Coetzee is a good case in point. Only 66/1 in a place, he's nearly twice those odds with the Irish firm and, while there are shorter priced players with a better chance than him, he represents huge value. As you'd expect, the young South African has plenty of good form in his homeland, with three victories on the Sunshine Tour, and his European results in 2010 read very well in the context of this field with five top-25 finishes and two top-10s to his name. He might not win but I'm expecting a big improvement on his 28th place here last year on his debut.

    Recommended Bets:
    Charl Schwartzel 4pts @ 11/2 bet365
    Gareth Maybin 1pt each-way @ 33/1 Skybet
    George Coetzee 0.5pt each-way @ 125/1 Boylesports
    George Coetzee Top-10 Finish 1pt @ 10/1 Skybet
    Charl Schwartzel / Geoff Ogilvy 1pt each-way double @ 11/2 / 8/1 bet365
