Can I have his child?

Question

my partner has a son from a previous relationship, who is severly autistic. I love having him over at weekend, but hes very hard work. I have a 5 yr old daughter myself. My partner and I would like to have a child 2gether, does autism run in familys? am I a higher risk? Does anybody no anybody that has an autistic child and then went on to have a non autistic child? Im not a selfish person, Im just worried

A friend of mine has 4 non autistic children and one autistic.   There may be some genetic component to autism, but really research is in its infancy.  I've never known a family to have multiple children with autism....I'm sure it's possible, but not likely.

I wouldn't worry too much. Im pretty sure when the doctor does the test for birth defects it could be detected, and I think it's done at 16 weeks so if you find out there is something wrong and you dont think you can handle it, there are still options.

many families have non autistic children and autistic children...There is always a risk you could have an autistic child and the gene in his could of came from the mother..its something that you shouldn't stress over.
