IZH 46M + San Francisco

I live in San Francisco, Ca, and am planning to purchase an IZH 46M competition air pistol.

The question: Has San Francisco banned air gun ownership just like some other cities such as N.Y.?

I went to my police station and brought up this question. But the officer on duty couldn't provide me anything in black on white, all he said was "forbidden".

I also talked to some local gun stores, and some gun club members, and they all said they've never heard of this ban (but then they only deal with firearms).

I then searched the following San Francisco municipal code and California law sites using key words like "pellet", "bb", and "gun". I found not one sentence about prohibiting possession witin the city.

Can someone clarify this issue?

Many thanks.

  1. What is your reason for a competition grade air gun? Presumably to compete in air gun tournaments.... Find your local air gun store and proceed. If you are wanting this for it's coolness factor or to carry as self defense, grow up. Not worth getting shot over, off duty/undercover blend in quite well.
