Question:

Can I have surgery to remove self harm scars? PLEASE advise!

The scars are white, whiter than the rest of my skin, slightly raised, and on my inner upper arms where the skin is loose. I'm guessing bio-oil etc. only works on red, newer scars? As they are already completely faded then is surgery my only option?

  1. I had good luck with  lots of vitamin E oils massaged into the skin regularly.

Sometimes stupid mistakes stay with you for a lot longer than the duration of the mistake... Mine are still semi-visible after close to nine years.

  2. oils should help over time. Also massage the skin regularly and you can also go to a massage therapist that is trained in scars - they may be able to break up any adhesions and speed healing process.

Most importantly, do not allow the scars or comments about them to change your view of yourself. They are just markers of where you have been and do not have anything to do with where you are today or tomorrow.

Stay well and research your options.

  3. You can have surgery on the NHS. You need to have a doctor who is willing to refer you. Then you need to pass a number of interviews. You'd have to prove that you no longer S H and that the old scars are not helping your recovery.

Your local medical centre would also have to pay towards the surgery so it would depend on your relationship with them.

  4. bio oil never worked for my scars.

would surgery not leave you with scars anyway?

  5. Yeah you can but you have to pay for it, You dont deserve to get it on the NHS for free.

  6. I also have self-harm scars on my arms, so I know how you feel. Mine are on the outside of my arm where everyone can see them and ask about them. I've been using Mederma for a while and they're starting to fade a little. I think Mederma is probably the best thing to try since it works on old and new scars.

Good Luck, and ignore any slightly rude answers that people without a clue about you decide to post.

  7. first I'm sorry for some of the answers that you got, glad that your feeling better enough to look after yourself. maybe you could try some sort of makeup, but whatever you do i hope it works out for you, my best wishes go with you.

  8. yes surgery can help but will leave its own scars and will cost you!

  9. ive used bio oil and its worked for me, u have to keep usin it and over time it shud work, got to ur docs and talk them about what u can do .

  10. Surgery??? after all the practise you have had with sharp objects you should be able to do the job yourself.
