  1. When you report they will take everything in your possession from you and send it to your home of record.  So, initially, no.  You might have someone mail it to you though.  You should get a personal drawer to place a few random things.

  2. sorry , no you cant. you can write letters to you family and friends but as far as taking a note book with you, thats a no. you are to be stripped of your individuality in boot camp. the notebook make you special. sorry, it is the rules.

  3. If you take it, it will probably end up in the "excess luggage" room where you will rarely see it and by the time you can see it, you'll probably have forgotten about it.

Just take what is required, you should be given a list, anything else you take will no doubtfully get locked away until you finish training.

Another thing is, as a female recruit- you don't want to add to the reputation they already have as being a "princess" or whining, the guys will hate you and it will add to any argument they might have about girls not belonging in the army.

  4. probably not

take nothing with you that isnt on your allowed list

comfort items will be taken and you will make it very hard on your unit as you will be punished for bringing contraband

  5. Army basic, I'm assuming, is going to be more lenient than Marine boot camp, and we were even allowed to have those things. However, they may just take ALL your stuff, so instead of bringing it, have your mom or friend mail it to you when you get there. This would be a MUCH better option.

EDIT: You can't have candy or other snacks, make-up, clothes/shoes/accessories, or music/music players/cell phones, but other than that, you can have pretty much anything sent to you. They can send you a new writing set, books (including religious texts), pictures, even lotions or chapstick or shampoo/conditioner...my parents both sent me a Burts Bees kit while I was there. Basically, stuff to help keep you clean or keep you writing. Trust me, you'll love those little things.
