I can't find any centers that take melamine? Is it considered a number 3 plastic?? how can I have it destroyed? I don't want the defective tableware to circulate in the country if someone takes it out of garbage, plus I have at least 1000 lbs to destroy. It does not have to be all done at once.

  1. Have you tried Greenworks? They will take damaged stuff sometimes and either repair or make into something new.

  2. Melamine is categorized as "other" category 7.

It can be turned into such things as countertops.

Because it is a thermoset plastic, melamine is difficult to recycle.

  3. i think a company called Hadfields wood recyclers take it. 01613702360

  4. Not sure if this will be correct, but most cities have a hazardous waste collection site via the fire department. This may be the place you are seeking or they would be able to steer you in the right direction--definitely worth a try.

  5. Is this damaged to the point a needy family couldn't use it? If not, contact places like goodwill or your local swap shop radio programs. If it is damaged too badly for use contact your local recycle people or the fire department. I'm sure they can point you in the right direction for disposing of it.

  6. You may want to contact a local college Fine Arts deparment...in particular the sculpture department. They may find a creative way to use the materials in an art project. It may be an alternative if you cannot find someone to recycle them. Just a thought!

  7. I don't know where you live, but near me in watford, there is a organisation called WRAP which takes large/small quantities of stuff like that from people, usually companies, and then let other people come and take some. Stuff is often usufull to Art students, teachers, Nurseries etc. This one is in Watford, but there are others around, although I don't know where! It might be worth trying to find one though, even if they didn't take the whole lot, they might take half or something
