Can I hold 2 passports?

Question

I want to apply for an Irish passport. Does anyone know if I need to wait for my British one to expire before I apply?

I am entitled to Irish citizenship through my father, who was born in Dublin. Also, does anobody know how I apply for one, and what documentation I will need?

You can have two passports at the same time. There is no problem holding both a British or Irish passport at all. A British Passport has the same strength as an Irish passport. Possibly the only exception is that a British passport will allow you to reside and work in Britain's external territories such as the Falkland Islands, British Virgin Islands, Bermuda,etc. while with a Irish passport you will have to apply for residency.

Yes, you can have both passports at the same time if British Consulate give you. Polish people most have both passports.

I know that you can hold 2 passports at the same time if you have dual citizienship. But with a british passport you can enter into a whole lot more countries than you can with an irish one.

Dual citizenship is hardly ever a problem and the first thing you do for finding out about getting Irish citizenship and a passport is to visit the Irish government's website and look there.  It takes all of ten seconds to find using google:

You Can be a Dual Citizen, However I'd be very Careful of

being a Dual National between Ireland and England...there

is still a little bit of hostility between the two under certain lines

Other than that Try to contact the British Consulate and work from there.

no u can have both i am not sure why u would want irish though the british one is better for not needing visas for other countries.
