Can I hook my car subwoofer up to my home audio receiver?

I know that most home audio receivers are 8 ohms, well I have a dual voice coil sub and each is rated at 4 ohms, so if I wire it to 8 ohms like this - http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configurations.asp?Q=1&I=42 - Would I be able to plug my sub directly into the back of my audio receiver in my house?

  1. course if the connections are thier. lots of amps have a 4or 8 ohm switch look for one. And can run 4 just fine. i think its series that makes it an 8 ohm speaker

  2. hey yes u can

  3. i would not try that the home audio receiver may not enough watts to push the sub and will burn the receiver up

it the watts you need not the ohms

  4. i assume the woofer is mounted in an enclosure and has a fixed crossover .The woofer can be hooked up to your second set of speaker terminals.you may have a problem balancing the output of your primary speakers and the sub woofer. You also want to take into consideration the overall output power of your receiver.

  5. shure why not / pehaps you have a/b speaker slector ,and you could even wire in a volume pot
