Can I hook up a camcorder to my PC using an S-Video cable? My camcorder is a Sony Handycam with HI8 video.?

Sony ccd-tr917, my computer does have an S-Video jack on the back of it, I am using Windows XP

  1. If you have an analog (VHS) camcorder…

    You need an analog converter, either internal card or external such as the dazzle. It's very easy to use and come with good software. You would hook your analog VHS camera or VCR to the analog converter, the dazzle and then hook the dazzle to your PC. The dazzle cost around 70.00 , but worth the money if you have a lot of VHS to tapes to convert.


  2. Does your PC have S-Video in capability?? Since you neglected to tell us the  model of your camcorder or the make & model &  OS of your PC you don't have many options!! Consult your manual!! There is a whole section devoted to your answer!! If you don't have one, you should be able to download one from the Sony support site. See the link below>>>>>

  3. If you have an s-video out and the appropirate capture device on your PC (some desktops have an S-Video input, if not there are various analogue to digital converters, look at dazzle for the cheaper USB type, the more expensive firewire type are in my experience better)
