Can I hook up four subwoofers to an amp?

I have a box that has four subs, two 12" sony xplod, and two 10" sony xplod, and i'm wondering if I can hook them up to my 1200 watt sony xplod amp or will I need another amp?

  1. What are the ohms of the 4 speakers? More than likely,you will need a new amp due to the ohms..Let us know by editing the question and entering the ohms of the speakers.


  2. Don't hook up different wattage subwoofers if they are. If they're the same, and each is single 4 ohm, then you'll be running under 1 ohm I believe. 3 subs to 1 output is 1.3 ohms, and I think that 4 subs is around .5 or .8 ohms around. No amp will be able to handle that purely unless it ran you over a grand. Get 2 amps and hook each two subs to each, the 10's on one and the 12's on the other. That will be 2 ohms each, and all amps or most can handle that without a problem. You'll be satisfied spending the extra 150 on the second amp, and I hope the sonys do the job, they didn't for me.
