I'm staying in a beach house next week without high speed internet-I'm wondering if i can take one of the house's television cables going into the tv and plug it into my modem, then work my modem off that. The house has cable, but I'm not sure if the setup will work.

thanks for the help

  1. Probably not.  The cable company needs to turn on the internet for that house.  Also, the cable modem will only work with your home cable provider.

  2. probably not check with your ISP they may not have the internet signals on that leg of cable.  use a isp zip code checker for internet at that address

  3. If you got a $20 wireless network adaptor for your computer, it would show ALL the dsl signals within 200 feet of your computer.

Netgear or brand X, they work great.

  4. If HSI isn't configured or available to local residents at the beach house, then bringing an extra cable to the location won't do it. Call and ask who the local ISP providers are for the area of the beach house location, then plan accordingly...

EDIT: At the beach house, check to see if you can pick-up a wireless signal strong enough to connect to? If you can, then it is likely a neighbor's signal. Knock on a few neighbor's doors and explain your situation of being at your location temporarily, and ask if you can share their internet connection. Offer to pay but, most I've asked have refused payment. Worst that they can say is "No".
