Can I hook up my tivo series2 to direct tv?

I have a directtv dvr(that i hate! the dishnetwork dvr is alot better) But you can not watch the recorded programs except only where the dvr is located. I have a tivo series2 box and was wondering if i could put it in the upstairs bedroom as a replacement for a standard directtv box. Will I have to still pay for a tivo subscription?because i already pay for a dvr subscrption from direct tv.

TiVo Series2 boxes don't work without TiVo subscriptions, AND are NOT a replacement for DirecTV box.  To use the TiVo Series2 with DirecTV, you'll need BOTH a TiVo subscription, AND a DirecTV box.

Unlike cable signals, satellite signals cannot be processed by TiVo Series2 DVRs without a decoder box.
