Can I improve my eyesight?

Hi.

My eyesight used to be brilliant but now at 14 it has got a bit pants!

Whenever I place my index fingers on the sides of my eyes nearest to my ears and pull my eyes back, I find it easier to focus on things.

It's weird but I was thinking, does this mean I need more sleepp because my eye muscles can't do the job on their own or what?

I dont get a lot of sleep really and eatvbadly during the day, can I solve the problem?

  1. well you cant really improve your eyesight greatly( unless you take laser eye surgery) but you can eat carrots every day, when reading or watching tv make sure the room is lit well, definately get more sleep, and try not to read small lettering from far away

  2. the only way to get your eyesight better is to have a laser operation. Which mean that you need to wait until 18+.

I have really bad eyesight too... but I survive.

  3. There isn't anything you can do to improve your eyesight.  Sounds like you are just making yourself squint when you pull on your eyes, so you are probably just myopic, or nearsighted.  Myopia usually progresses through the teens and then stabilizes in the twenties.  After it has stabilized, laser surgery may be an option for you.

Wearing glasses/contacts will clear things up for you, but won't improve your sight.  Eating carrots (getting vitamin A) will help keep your eyes healthy but won't improve your eyesight.  TVs, computers, and reading in the dark can cause eyestrain, but they don't have permanent effects on your eyes.  Eye exercises can help with binocular problems or eyestrain, but they don't actually improve your eyesight.

I suggest seeing an optometrist to get your eyes checked out and your vision cleared up.  :)

  4. I really don't think so naturally, but you can preserve it with a great diet and other eye health precautions.

  5. I wonder if sleep does have something to do with it...I where glasses...and my vision is still c**p. I haven't gotten alot of sleep even though school is out...idk go ask an eye doctor.

  6. if you are a bit myopic i suggest going to an optremtrist and getting plus lenses. This will relax your eyes and if you wear these lenses while doing near work, you eyesight should be restored

  7. Matthew,

If your level of visual weakness is mild enough, there are a series of eye exercises that can reduce or delay the need for glasses.  Find an Optometrist who specializes in Vision Therapy in your area and have your parents get a consultation for you.

LASIK cannot be done on anyone under 18 years old and not everyone qualifies for LASIK. For such an apparent mild amount of prescription, I would NOT recommend LASIK anyway.
