Question:

Can I install a Bose amp in my 97 Grand Prix?

I currently have a 1997 Grand Prix GTP with still the factory sound system installed, a radio/cd player and 8 speakers. I would like to install a BOSE amplifier that I know they came with the 1999 Grand Prix. Will I be able to do that or my radio wont support the amplifier. (Note that this amp is not aftermarket, just belonged to a newer grand prix model)

Please I am open to all answers and suggestions.

  1. Most likely no. you need to have the whole system. the speakers out of the bose system run on an odd impedance and the bose amp will only work with the bose head unit and speakers.

  2. most Bose amps are not compatible with anything but factory head units and speakers that go with that model Bose amp. The stable resistance of the amp is different than that of aftermarket stereo equipment, and will probably result in failure of one or more components in the system.

  3. Bose amplifiers are made to work with Bose head units and Bose speakers.  It's an all-or-nothing system.  If you pulled everything out of the '99, including the wiring (that's different too) then you might be able to make it work in the '97.  It's far more trouble than it's worth, though.

A well-designed after-market audio system will  easily outperform a Delco Bose package.
