Question:

Can I install my own dashboard or Grill Camera on my car for my own protection?

Since the police have either dashboard mounted or concealed grill cameras in their patrol cars, can ordinary citizens install such a device in their own cars? It seems that everywhere now there is a camera rolling. Is this legal?

This could be used to record potential accidents that the driver may encounter for insurance and liability reason or if the driver gets pulled over, for him/her to give their version of the story as compared to the Police's video footage.

  1. Why not? Make sure it isn't violating any "code".

  2. Yes

  3. I don't see why not ..

  4. it is legal.

how much you want to spend on one is up to you, some people opp to use a "handicam" style system ( if the police see this they can and do have the right to have you take it off of your dash) that uses suction cups to stay on your dash.

i use a over head system that records to a dvd

  5. Its a free country sure you can just make sure what you do with the

footage your not sued for content by others who have a right to

privacy, meaning don't put your cam shots on the net unless you want to be sued for all kinds of reasons get the cam and never tell no one except for law enforcement to show who stole your property or another

property crime you caught on the spot. There are laws protecting

the privacy of innocents and your cam could cause you more trouble if

got out to the public as public knowledge and your shots end up on the evening news showing illegal activities around your cars parking spot. I frankly think they all should be equipped for anti-theft cams myself so the bad people willing to take our stuff get caught more readily. Cheers go for it. it is a free country Kojak.

  6. There would be nothing illegal about that at all.  I say go for it.

  7. Sure you can.  There are lots of companies selling products to record video.  Just remember that in SOME states (like Maryland).... if you record AUDIO without people's consent, you are actually violating WIRETAPPING laws or other applicable laws.
