  1. Vinyl siding cannot be installed over old vinyl siding.. you'd have to remove the old siding first.

Vinyl siding CAN be installed over old wood, or masonite siding.

Unless the existing siding is damaged for some reason, you should be able to repair the leak, and put the existing siding back on.  I'd recommend finding that leak, and repairing it.

If the siding is damaged on one side of the home.... you could purchase new siding that will match it very closely  (It would be almost impossible to get an exact match, as the existing siding will have been run from a different color lot, and it will have faded a bit from sunlight).  Then replace the siding on just the one side of the home...keeping the old siding to make repairs on the other sides of the home as needed.  This would cost much less than replacing all of the siding.  You'll find that if you replace one whole side of the home, any color variation will be harder to discern.

For example, I had a service call to replace some siding on a home where someone fired up a grill too close to the home, hehehe....I could not get an exact match on the siding, so I got a very close match, and replaced the siding on one end.  Then I used the siding from the end, to make repairs around the rest of the home.

For those who are putting new siding on their homes... always buy extra, and store it in a safe place, so you'll have some to work with, should repairs ever be needed.

    Good Luck
