Question:

Can I introduce baby degus with baby rats?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has ever put degu and rats together around 6 weeks old and whether they would get on if introduced at this very early age.

Both are very social animals, so I'm assuming they would get on.

Anyone have any experiences?

  1. I doubt,

Naturally rats see other animals as competition and will usually wind up killing and/or wounding each other.

They'd probably have to be alot younger than six weeks

I wouldnt try it! No offense

  2. I am not sure, but you are right, both are very social animals.  The only thing I'd watch is make sure the rats don't nip at the Degu's ears (or possibly the Degu at the rat's tail).  We had a chinchilla with a guinea pig for a very brief time, and the poor chilla got a few nips to his ears before we quickly moved him back to his own cage.
