Question:

Can I join the USMC??

Alright, here's my story. Back in 2004 I became a recruit at MCRD Sandiego. I was 10 weeks into training, and got out on a medical discharge(broken bone in my back). They somehow figured that I did it before bootcamp, so I got no money or anything in return, except a busride back home.

Now since then, I have always considered myself a former marine. But I want to join again. I know I would have to go back through bootcamp(which from what I hear, is alot easier now then it was 4 years ago).

But I was wondering if there was any recruiters or anybody that knew anything about me being able to join again. Or if there is any place I can get some adequate information. Thank you

  1. When I enlisted in the French Foreign Legion I had a similar problem but they gave me a waiver.

    Vive la France!

  2. that happened to one of my friends and they told him he couldntg join for aother 4 years but he got a couple second opinions from docts and went back, so they are just waiting for the waiver to be approved.....

  3. First of all, you are not a former marine. You can't be considered a veteran until after you've served two years in the armed forces.

I seriously doubt that you'll be able to rejoin, unless you can somehow get a medical waiver approved, highly unlikely.

The marines will look at your service record and see that you were medically discharged, and will more than likely disapprove your application.

My question is... Did you break you back before you joined the first time, or did it happen while in training?

  4. Ok just to start this off your not a Marine, sorry to say it you didn't make bootcamp. You must go back to the office it all started at and try again. Don't consider yourself a former Marine because your not.

  5. the same thing happened to a friend of mine. he messed up his knee and they wouldnt let him be a marine. he kept trying but hes medical history wouldnt let him do it. im sorry i respect the armed forces alot but i dont think they will let you in with a back injury. even if it was awhile ago they might not let you with fear you could reinjured your back. but my friend joined the army after that.

  6. Why don't you talk to a recruiter dude, it's that simple.  Go down to the recruiting office and ask them if they'll let you in again.  Problem solved.

I don't know if a mere broken bone in your back a few years ago would keep you out of the Marines.  I highly doubt that it would.  Unless of course you LIED to them the first time about it.  In any event, very few injuries will keep you out of the Army or Marines.  They only ones they really care about are injuries concerning your eyes, your heart, and your breathing.  Broken bones don't mean sh*t.
