I am a boy, who loves volleyball. There isn't a team for boy's volleyball at my school, but there is a girl's team. Boys don't show enough interest in the sport to join, so I asked them if I can join the girl's team. They said no. Can I sue for s*x discrimination?

  1. Do some research into a case where a boy played on the girls team in Horseheads, NY.  It stirred a lot of controversy and there should be a lot of stories on it from NY.

It just happened this year so it's a good precedent for you...

  2. My school's volleyball team are called the 'Lady Rams' so no, boys cant join this team. but since the football team isnt classified as the "boy rams" football team, girls are able to join. if your school said no and their is no "lady" in the title, u should be able to join.

  3. No, you can't.

Look into your city for a club volleyball for boys and girls. Join that. Sometimes the coach of the high school volleyball team will hold clubs and clinics you can do at  a local rec. center.

  4. thats not right that they told u that u can't atleast try out.

theses girls at my school just wanted to try out for football. and they went up to the coach i think and asked him if they could just try out. And he said yes. Even though they are girls, they can just come and try out for fun. and have to do all that work that the boys do. But they knew that they weren't going to make the teamm. I just don't think thats right that they wont let you try out.

but then agian i kinda understand why they wont let u

  5. yeah you can because by law they are technically required  to give you a far chance to tryout and they cant tell you no just because of your s*x

my friend is a girl and her school was required to allow her to try out for the girls football team  she did but she didnt make it becasue she wasnt the best at it but the school was required to let her tryout

  6. no because that's not discrimination ...  if it's girl's volleyball, it's girl's volleyball ...  if they allow a boy on your team, they'd have to allow boys on every team and therefore girl's volleyball would cease to exist ..  it'd just become a co-ed sport ...  here's what you can do:

of course, you can't start a volleyball team ... the athletic director of the school/district is the one that has to approve of that ...  however, you can get approved to be the founder of a volleyball club, which perks a lot more interest because it is not an obligation ...  when guys think about playing volleyball for a team, they think practice, they think away games, they think wasted time and energy on a sport they're not 100% in on ...  if you start club volleyball, they feel no responsibility to anyone, no coaches are needed and you can help stimulate interest in the game ...  sports teams cannot just be formed on the spot ... there's a lot that goes into it ...  if you want to make a difference and help increase interest in the sport, suing for sexual discrimination is exactly what you don't want to do ...  not only would guys take less of an interest in the game, but it'd drive the girls away from it too .. take the higher road and build up from the ground for yourself and your school

btw:  the previous poster has one part right ... technically, you CAN sue, but these are the types of cases that get thrown out before they even reach the courtroom (how many girls do you think have cried discrimination for not being allowed to try out for football?)

  7. yes boys are allowed to tryout for girls volleyball teams. It is the law that the coachs can not just turn them down because they are a male. The coachs probbally will not choose you not because you are a boy but because the team would not be elgible for state records or tournamates. It would not be fair to the other girls.

    Sorry :(

but go and have a blast try out or play club volleyball for a boys team there are pleanty!!!

  8. I think you can sue. Schools have to make everything fair to EVERYONE, and if they don't to you then it is descrimination. I say go to a school board meeting and talk about it there. See what they say, and if they turn you down then try and sue.

I hope you get volleyball at your school.

  9. my athletic director wouldn't let me play football and some boys asked him if i could play and he still said no, when i asked my parents if i could sue they said no bacuse the only rule by that is there has to be an equivelent sport, so football or cross country would count as that so you probably couldn't. sorry

  10. you cant because if its a girl team than its a girl team

  11. no its the GIRLS volleyball team and you are a BOY

  12. No. It wouldn't be fair because you are bigger than them. Guys are built differently than girls and are overall stronger. However in my league I know that guys were able to play on a  girl's team if they were 2 years younger than the girls.

  13. i doubt u can, sorry. one of my friends (girl) tried out for the football team and made it, but it wasnt specifically a boys football team, and if its a girls volleyball team, i doubt theyll let u try-out

  14. I suggest you find a club in your area that has boys teams.
