  1. The subscription files from Rhapsody have Digital Rights Management (DRM) encoding on them.  They are active files as long as you pay from your subscription.  Once your subscription is no longer active, the files will expire and no longer play.  You'll notice, if you use the subscription service on a portable device of any kind, they you have to connect it to your computer at least once a month so that Rhapsody can make sure your subscription is up to date and keep your files active.  So, the answer is no, you can't just subscribe for a month and keep all of the files you download.  After that month, unless you continue to pay, the files you downloaded will no longer work.

  2. I have an MP3 player and a BlackBerry Curve. I just use the free version. I can listen to 25 free streams a month, and I can transfer music to my portable devices. You don't need to purchase their services. I pay as I go. 99 cents a song. I only buy tracks that I like.
