Can I just cancel standing order with my bank or do I have inform the company i have the standing order with?

I would like to cancel some standing orders such as gym membership which i just pay from month to month

  1. Your contract with the company would still be in force, so they would still chase you for the money, even if you cancel, You need to make sure you end any agreement before cancelling any DD or SO.


  2. Ya you can cancel by contacting your bank no need to contact the gym is needed although it would be a polite thing to let them know it after u have canceled the standing order so that they r aware of it.

  3. Just cancel with the bank, don't bother telling the company, save yourself the cost of a phone call, they wouldn't extend you the same courtesy.

  4. yes if you have a standing order all you have to do is ring up your bank and tell them to cancel it , you don't have to tell the person who you have set up the standing order up with but I'm sure they will let you know that they are no longer receiving payments.

  5. Well if you cancel it from your bank, the money will no longer come out. But its normally nice of you to inform the company too, especially as if it is something that you pay regularly. Or they could end up chasing you saying you owe money etc!
