Can I just go to my local Bank of America and exchange my leftover Mexican pesos for US dollars on the spot?

  1. Maybe, maybe not.

    It's more likely than trying to buy pesos for dollars.

    Are you close to the Mexican border ?

    Are you in a big city ?

    If either (or better, both) of those is the case,

    you have a pretty good chance.

    Otherwise, probably not.

    They might be able to accept the pesos and

    have to send them to a central facility.

    You might find a currency exchange office away from a bank at somewhere like American Express or Thomas Cook.

    In any case, the spread can be enormous if it is not

    in a place where they do high volume.


  2. As the other poster mentioned they won't take coins.  also, see what the bank charges to do an exchange, if any thing. Most banks in the US charge to exchange dollars for pesos and it wouldn't surprise me if the reverse was also true.

    If they do and its not a lot of pesos. Save them for your next trip or maybe someone you know will be going and they'll buy them from you.
