I have the most beautiful little pocket peach tree in my front yard. It yields such yummy juicy little peaches. I want to make a little tree for my grandma. Can I just take the pit and stick it in the ground? Does it need to dry out first? is there anything special I need to do to get it to grow??

Thank you!!

:)

  1. Yes. You should probably let it dry out, wash it off.  Otherwise it may mold.  But its an easy tree to grow.  Just normal plant care.

However, you may not get the same peaches off it.  If you really want the same tree you need to root a cutting.

Wait for the end of summer and cut a thin branch off and dip it in some rooting compound (not really needed) and keep it moist in the light soil, like in peat moss.  There are lots of pages on the web about propigation by cuttings.  It really is easy to make a new tree. And you will have one that makes the same peaches you like so much.

  2. If it's a seed from your tree, the best way to do it is bury a whole peach about a quarter inch under soil and water until soil is damp but not soaked.  The fruit is ment to be food for the seed and will greatly aid in the initial growth of the plant.  If you're not willing to have any smell... use just the seed with plant food.

  3. It will grow from seeds but will start to yield fruits more longer years than the nursery type ones.
