Can I keep lovebirds and cockateils together?

I have just purchased 3 love birds (2 female 1 male) and I wondered if I could keep them with 2 female cockatiels in a large aviary together?

Any advice would be great.

Thank you.

  1. No! on no account put Lovebirds with Cockatiels as they could kill the Cockatiels,Lovebirds do-not live up to their name,as they can be very vicious little blighters.

If you can divide your aviary this is the best, but put a double wire divider(1.1/2ins,at least) so that the Lovebirds can not get at your Cockatiels.

As they have a horrible habit of pecking off any toes that come through the wire.

I learnt this to my loss many years ago when I first kept birds.

  2. NO NO NO!

  3. Absolutely not.

It doesn't matter who the agressor would be, they definitely would fight and hurt each other. I understand lovebirds can be highly aggresive.

Two separate cages where they could still see and hear each other is perfect.

  4. definitely not! just like WACKY said lovebirds can be very mean and can kill other birds living in the same aviary or cage. i also recommend dividing the aviary. if i was you i would make it into two different  areas with a piece of wood, that way you wouldn't have to worry and would have no risk. hope i have helped!fell free to email me at niloc505@gmail.com for advice, info, or questions!

  5. I would not try it. Cockatiels can get VERY aggressive. Try some parrotlets or budgies as companions for your love birds.

  6. Hi, Jason,

As the other have said no, this is right nearly all books etc say no but in the past i have kept the birds together and have had no problems, but really if you are going to mix them then it depends on the birds themselves as some birds are trouble makers but others will just accept it.

Secondly when i have kept the two breeds together i have all ways kept the two in a large aviary which was about 12ft by 6ft by 6ft and it had an indoor cage about 5ft by 2ft by 2ft. As if they are cramped then its highly likely they will fight.

  7. no lovebirds are the aggresive ones not cockatiels lovebird should only be with other lovebirds in a large aviary you could try some budgies with cockatiels
