Can I keep my number if changing from O2 to Vodafone in the UK?

I am changing from O2 to a new Vodafone phone, both on Pay as you Go - can I take my existing number with me, and if so, how do I do this?

Phone O2,ask for a PAC code for your number, they will give it you there and then over the phone. Call Vodafone up and say you want to move to Pay as you Talk, and they will take the PAC number, claim it, send you a new SIM card and then in 4-7 days you will be on Voda!
