I've been figure skating for once a week for a year. I've tried double-toe loop many times and I got it one day but it was

cheated. I can do my axel off ice, but everytime I get out on the ice i'm too scared to try it.

  1. Double toe loop, salchow, flip, loop, and lutz are easier to try then axels because they take off backwards. But that doesn't mean they are easier to land. Axel is the only jump other then the waltz jump that takes off foward so it's a little scarier. But if you can land an axel with no problem off ice, you'll have very little problem landing it on ice so you don't have to be scared to try it. Good luck=D

  2. The axel is different from all other jumps, so it is a lot harder for some people.  It makes sense to me why you landed your double toe before your axel.  A good way to enter your axel when you are first learning it is to do a waltz jump on a straight line, then step right into an axel.  This gives you a feel for the takeoff and is at a slow speed so you have more control and you'll probably feel less scared.  Hope this helps!

  3. Dont be afraid to do your axel on ice. If you have enough height to do a double-toe loop then im sure your axel will be fine

    Good luck

    XD

  4. Are you SURE you're doing a full-rotated double toe-loop? If your someone hasn't taught it to you, it's a big possibility that you're doing the jump wrong, underrotating, cheating, etc. but you don't know it... you should learn the 2toe after axel and 2sal... and only once a week for a year??? Do you have all your jumps yet? Landed your lutz clean??? If so, then I have to say you're a fast learner... I'm working on my axel now and I started almost 2 years ago.

  5. I think its possible to do your double toe before an axel...I actually landed my double sow before my axel...so its possible, but dont be afraid to do your axel on ice, it might seem scary at first but just try it and you'll see its really not that scary.

    GOOD LUCK!
