Can I learn to sing?

I am absolutely tone deaf.

Is there a way I can teach myself to sing without help from a teacher? Or is it just that people who can't sing can't sing?

its not nessisaraly that u cnt sing its just that u dont know how to ooor u can and just have rele low self confidence and think u suck even thou u dont. a good way to check is to perform for family and friends or if ur shy post a video of u singing on youtube and just dont show your face just like film a cat or something and sing. lol annd hopefully someone will give you feedback. if u do that one thennn let me know annd i will deff go on and tell you :)

Anyone can learn to sing. Though if you really are tone deaf, you will probably have to work harder than someone who isn't.

You do need to be taught how to do it. Ideally this would be by a teacher, and if you are serious about it, I would strongly recommend that you try to get lessons either now or in the future. If you don't have access to one, there are some good books and audio courses out there as well, which can be very helpful if you put in the effort. If you're interested in these, do some research online comparing different audio courses and looking at book reviews on amazon.com and so on, and see which you think will be most useful to you.

maybe you cannot sing but you can write songs and play an instrument

it's not that people CAN'T sing... it's just that people are better than others at that specific thing.

but honestly, no, i dont think that that's a good idea... we had a girl who was tone deaf in our chorus last year and it messed everything up because she thought she was hitting all the right notes and she wasnt and no one would tell her because they didnt want to be mean to her or anything because we didnt think she knew she was tone deaf.
