I own a home in Ontario and a home in Florida. I spend 5 months of the year in Florida and 7 months in Canada. I want to know if I will be charged tax, etc. when I cross the border into Canada.

  1. If you lease a vehicle in US it is technically not yours. There will be no duty on it if you bring it in Canada as it will be going back and not kept or sold in Canada. But you may want to check on the insurance issues. Ontario laws are typical and make sure your insurance company in Florida does not have problems with that.

Also make sure you use a drivers license from Florida with your Florida address.

  2. Yes. When you lease it, it's YOURS....you can do whatever you want with it.

  3. Yes, you most definitely can.  My parents are "snowbirds" and drive their leased car down south every winter, and stay for nearly 3 months!  No, you won't be charged any taxes, because as far as customs is concerned, it is YOUR car.

  4. yes, of course you can.
