I have a 2001 Mazda Tribute. I recently got a stereo system installed. My buddies and me installed it. I did everything right I think it plays right. The only thing was that the fuse was too small, but I got it fixed. I have 2 12" Kicker Comps and a ZX300.1 amp. 2 weeks ago my battery and my alternator went bad. I had the alternator rebuild and got an Optima battery. The alternator messed up the same night I got it backed. The alternator is fixed again but I unhooked the amp. I just was wondering if a 300 watt peak power amp with the bass boost turned on could drain an alternator that fast. I don't think this is it I just need some help.

  1. CHECK the wiring that shouldnt be a problem I have a larger amp and two 12" Rockford Punch 2 subs- I run it for at least an hour a day, never had alternator problems your wiring is off, did you use a fuse? is it grounded right? wires touching? anything to that nature, even something as little as a fuse could cause that problem.

  2. no it shouldn't be the alternator i have a 1994 jeep grand cherokee limited with 2 12 inch pioneer competion subs with a 4000 watt class d amp and i have no problems so whoever built the alternator might have not doen it right

  3. you need to upgrade your big three man since you already upgraded your batt n alt.

  4. Newtons's 3rd Law, quit giving advice since your advice is garbage. He doesn't need a capacitor at all, no one really needs one. You need to learn about audio before giving any advice what so ever. By your answer you have already told me that you know nothing about what a cap does and does not do.

The place that rebuilt your alt rebuilt it jacked up. Make sure you put the correct size fuse back into the amp as well, since that could end up hurting the amp. As far as leaving the bass boost on, you can if you do not mind buying new subs soon, or paying for a rebuild on the subs. Having the bass boost on just killed any warranty that you might have had on those subs. Since bass boost will and does cause clipping.
