Can I legally carry a 3 inch knife with me in los angeles?

I just bought a 3" knife. i plan to use it for protection in case i get robbed.. the blade is 1.8 inches. can i legally carry this blade around with me? i live in los angeles california

They have laws against public uses of knifes longer than 3"

SEC. 55.10.  CARRY KNIVES OR DAGGERS IN PLAIN VIEW PROHIBITED.

But the codes say nothing about concealed knives.

But if they were going to bust you they would use:

SEC. 55.01.  CONCEALED WEAPONS – PERMIT.

No person, except a peace officer shall wear or in any manner carry concealed upon his person, any loaded or unloaded gun, pistol or revolver, or any other **dangerous or deadly weapon** permitted to be carried by law without having, at the same time, actually in his possession, and upon his person an unexpired permit so to do issued by the Board of Police Commissioners.

i don't know, but i don't see why you should, because you shouldn't have two. i have a few knives, but i don't carry them with me everywhere i go.

just buy some pepper spray. this way, you'll be safe and you'll take them down without causing them any serious injury. just imagine if YOU were the attacker. wouldn't you be thankful it was only pepper spray and not a bad wound sending you to the hospital?

LAMC 55.10 applies only to knives with blades 3 inches long or longer, so it would not apply to this knife.  (I also think that LAMC 55.10 is preempted by state law, but that is a long discussion for another day.)

However, if this is a fixed blade knife, it is quite possible that it is a dirk or dagger under state law, in which case it is unlawful to carry it concealed.  (Pen C 12020.)  Openly carried in a belt sheath is not concealed.
