Question:

Can I legally do this?

I sold an item on ebay using my mom's account. The money was sent to "her" paypal account. I withdrew the amount of money i sold the item for, from her paypal account and requested it to be sent in a check to my house. The only problem is, is that the check will have her name on it? Can I cash this check? If so, what may be the requirements for me to cash it? (THE MONEY IS MINE BECAUSE IT WAS MY ITEM THAT WAS SOLD......JUST IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING)

  1. The easiest would be to ask your mom to cash it for you. Most places want ID and you are not going to find it easy to look like your mom. It might be ok, if it only has her initials on it, not her whole name.

  2. Since the check is going to be made out to her..... she will more than likely have to sign it - first then she could write under her name... pay to the order of (then your name)..

and then u can sign it and cash it..

Probably will have to be done at a bank and make sure you keep all of this above that line on the back of the check or it could void it.

  3. I Work at TCF bank,

2nd party endorsements are not allowed. Most banks also do not allow this. Thus, the easiest way to cash that check is for your mother to do it.

To avoid this trouble for the future open your own eBay account, paypal account, and checking account. This way you can buy and sell under your name.
