  1. Yes u can, actually many Americans do that, specially in tha san diego-tijuana border, since housing in san diego is extremely expensive.  If u are commuting to the san diego area expect to spend at least an hour to cross the border, if u get into the SENTRI program u will reduce ur bording crossing in half.  If u are planning to rent, $500 and up will get u a nice place to live.

  2. No rules against this.  The answer to the second question is simple:  As far north as feasible.

  3. As long as you have the correct paper work.

  4. manthebraces has the RIGHT answer   you need an FM-3 permit and a passport

  5. Yes of course you can.  I know a few people that do it.  As far as deciding where to live you would need to take a couple of things into mind.

1 Are you a city person or a country person

2 what are you rjob prospects on the US side of the boarder accross from the mexican side.

3 Do you have a preference for what US state you work in?  (maybe you wan to work in Calif because of thier labor laws,  then you need to look at some where to live in Mexco that would not be far from California.

Some major towns on the boarder would be

Tijuana, Mexicali, el paso, Nogales, Laredo..

    Good luck

  6. If you plan to LIVE in Mexico you will still need an FM-3 so you can be a legal alien.  Check with the nearest Mexican Consulate... you need your Passport, proof of an income of at least $1000 per month and $137 to cover the cost of filing the papers.  The consulate can also tell you what else you may need to live in Mexico
