Question:

Can I lose my salvation in Christ?

I have participated enough on this message board to see that there are many hungry Christians who are not sure where to turn. I will be using this message board in a different manner. Anyone who is a Christian should not accept any advice from a message board where Satan can run rampant with doubts and discouragement for replies. Do not accept any answers where scripture is used as a one liner on a vague or very important topic but rather keep it all IN CONTEXT to what the whole chapter and book is referring to.

Obviously my title made you click for a reply so it worked if you are reading this. Many Christians on this message board seem to have security of salvation as a very large topic. The reason that this is the biggest one is because Satan is trying to stop you from starting to grow in Christ.

The below scriptures are using the Amplified Bible because this is one of the most contextual life application translations and easy to understand. There are many people who only read certain translations or have a prideful view about a certain translation. This is very foolish because if you are so righteous in this view, your only option is to learn Greek as the New Testament was first written in Greek. I use the KJV as a base but since I do not speak in Old English it is foolish to only read a very hard translation to understand.

How do I become saved in Christ and am I sealed as a child forever if I sin in the future?

Romans 1

16For I am not ashamed of the Gospel (good news) of Christ, for it is God's power working unto salvation [for deliverance from eternal death] to everyone who believes with a personal trust and a confident surrender and firm reliance, to the Jew first and also to the Greek, 17For in the Gospel a righteousness which God ascribes is revealed, both springing from faith and leading to faith [disclosed through the way of faith that arouses to more faith]. As it is written, The man who through faith is just and upright shall live and shall live by faith.(A)

John 3:33

33Whoever receives His testimony has set his seal of approval to this: God is true. [That man has definitely certified, acknowledged, declared once and for all, and is himself assured that it is divine truth that God cannot lie].

Ephesians 1:13

13In Him you also who have heard the Word of Truth, the glad tidings (Gospel) of your salvation, and have believed in and adhered to and relied on Him, were stamped with the seal of the long-promised Holy Spirit.

John 6:27

27Stop toiling and doing and producing for the food that perishes and decomposes [in the using], but strive and work and produce rather for the [lasting] food which endures [continually] unto life eternal; the Son of Man will give (furnish) you that, for God the Father has authorized and certified Him and put His seal of endorsement upon Him.

Romans 4:11

11He received the mark of circumcision as a token or an evidence [and] seal of the righteousness which he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised--[faith] so that he was to be made the father of all who [truly] believe, though without circumcision, and who thus have righteousness (right standing with God) imputed to them and credited to their account,

2 Corinthians 1:22

22[He has also appropriated and acknowledged us as His by] putting His seal upon us and giving us His [Holy] Spirit in our hearts as the security deposit and guarantee [of the fulfillment of His promise].

Ephesians 4:30

30And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [do not offend or vex or sadden Him], by Whom you were sealed (marked, branded as God's own, secured) for the day of redemption (of final deliverance through Christ from evil and the consequences of sin).

Any and every response against Christ in using Christ as a COP-OUT to sin I will add this below from Romans. All sin and have sinned. Christ is the only solution. Christ is not a Cop-out, He’s the only answer to the plague of sin.

Romans 3

8And why should we not do evil that good may come?--as some slanderously charge us with teaching. Such [false teaching] is justly condemned by them. 9Well then, are we [Jews] superior and better off than they? No, not at all. We have already charged that all men, both Jews and Greeks (Gentiles), are under sin [held down by and subject to its power and control].

The answer is NO, you cannot lose your salvation. You are sealed by the Holy Spirit and one in Christ Jesus. Use this to jumpstart your walk. I hope I have helped and encourage you.

  1. "Once saved always saved" is not a quote from the Bible.

The idea flatly contradicts the following scriptures (American Standard):

    Hebrews 2:1-4

Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things that were heard, lest haply we drift away [from them].  For if the word spoken through angels proved stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward; how shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation? which having at the first been spoken through the Lord, was confirmed unto us by them that heard; God also bearing witness with them, both by signs and wonders, and by manifold powers, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to his own will.

    Hebrews 6:4-6

For as touching those who were once enlightened and tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the age to come,  and [then] fell away, it is impossible to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

    Hebrews 10:26-27

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which shall devour the adversaries.

    2 Peter 2:20-22

For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein and overcome, the last state is become worse with them than the first. For it were better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered unto them. It has happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog turning to his own vomit again, and the sow that had washed to wallowing in the mire.

  2. You can backslide from God...You can walk away from God. So then it's ok to murder someone and die as a serial killer and still go to heaven?? No. The Bible says that no sin will enter into Heaven.

  3. Yes, if you do not stay with Christ. We are saved because we are forgiven, so when we stay under this wonderful grace of forgiveness we are saved. If we move away and think we are good enough without God or just plain deny Him, then we are not saved anymore. God allows U-turns, when we turn return to Him.

  4. Thanks for the dialogue. Our Lord knows those who are His and will not let any of us stray from Him.

  5. My dear ... this is Yahoo Answers.

Yahoo Rhetoric may be down the hall, I'm not sure.

Have you thought about starting a blog?  It would be a much more appropriate place for this and the "future articles" you've mentioned.  Technically, this sort of thing (posting a question that you answer yourself) violates the Community Guidelines.

  6. Not a question.

Edit:  Five people out there thumbs down me because either

a:  They can find a non-rhetorical question posed above

    or

b: They think I shouldn't have pointed out that this is a sermon as opposed to a question.

Sometimes, I get so bemused by folks...

    Peace

  7. True, once you get your salvation, God will not say "never mind, you sinned a little too much for me to forgive"

BTW, The KJV was written closer to middle english, not old english. An example of old english is the epic poem Beowulf.

  8. you answered your own question.

No we can not lose salvation once you have it.

  9. You can have complete confidence in your daily walk as long as you

are following Messiah & His Commandment.

But of course you can chuck it all up & renounce it all & walk away.

Still our heavenly Father will lovingly pursue you, but if you turn your

back on Him consistently, He will let you go, its not His choice, but

    yours.

Also anything that is sealed can be unsealed, once again its your

    choice.

  10. Yes, the Bible says " He that endureth to the end.The same shall be saved".

  11. First, this is NOT a message board. It's a question and answer forum for various topics.

Second, by your stats it doesn't look like you've been much of a participant at all.

Third, I don't need you to tell me how to learn what Christ taught. Perhaps I don't necessarily agree with your assessment of what he taught. What or who gave you the authority to give unsolicited advice / opinion?

Edit- If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning.

  12. When God commands that someone be burned or stoned to death, is there an appropriate context?

  13. Satan has been whispering in my ear "Jesus could never possible forgive you, you are going to h**l" lately. I have been worried because of this. Yesterday I was sitting at the dinner table and I told my mother about this and she said that I was saved, then my father called me (he was upstairs) and said "Look out side" then I ran out and I saw a rainbow and I my heart just filled up with love, and my eyes filled up with water, and my mom said "Well... do you think Jesus loves you now?" Then I said "yes."

I will remember that sign forever.

Just as Noah saw the rainbow of God's promise to never again flood the earth, I saw the rainbow of God's promise that I am saved.

    Romans 10:9

If you confess with your mouth "Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead you are saved.

Believe this and you are saved.

    God Bless.

  14. We can't lose what we never had

  15. If God is omnipotent you could only lose your salvation if God wanted you to.

  16. Hello,

You can according to many Christian sects and you cannot according to some others. This argument has been going on for over 500 years since John Calvin brought it up in the Reformation years so you will have to research both sides of the argument and ultimately decide for yourself.

    Here is the two outcomes:

    1) If those who think this Eternal Security is correct, many of us starting with me who say nay are in big trouble. h**l for me will probably an eternal calculus class with a thick accented Asian or European professor.

    2) If Christ is not contradicting himself saying you are saved on one hand , then you must do good works like helping your neighbour and forgiving your brothers and sisters or woh be tide you as eluded to in the Parable of The Ungrateful Servant and Sermon on the Mount Did you cloth me when naked, feed me when hungry etc then those who preach and believe you cannot lose your salvation are in for one big bloody surprise.

I doubt Jesus will appear to sort this debate out once and for all any time soon so all I can say is the best of luck on your decision.

    Cheers,

    Michael Kelly

  17. Armianians (Mehtodist) believe that yu can and Calvinist believe thatyou can't, it depends on what interpretation you believe in.

  18. No stay prayed up and if you do mess up repent and be sincere.

  19. Salvation is a gift given to us by our heavenly Father.  He would never, ever give us a gift and then take it back.  Although I do believe that we can throw away His gift of eternal life just as we can throw away any other gift.

  20. So Satan, the covering Cherub, the closest being to YHVH in the universe... Was never saved in the first place?????????????  And what about all the texts that say "He that endures to the end shall be saved", which implies materially that he that does not endure to the end will not be!  You are spreading lies, and false security.   Salvation is like a marriage contract offered by YAHOSHUA.  Take His name, follow His rules, you become His 'bride' and He saves you.  As the Israelites made abundantly clear over the years, YHVH will not prevent you if you choose to get a 'divorce'.

  21. you are right,

you can not lose your salvation,if you could that would mean you have to work to be saved and that is not bible.

I used to live in fear of losing my salvation and when I finally figured out,it is because of what Jesus did,not what I can do I suddenly had peace about it.

I will never again live in fear of losing my salvation.

I am a sinner saved by grace.

  22. You are correct, it is impossible to lose or "leave" salvation (1 John 5:13).  Those who think they can "lose" it or "leave" it, might not have it to begin with.

  23. You're not really using this as a question and answer forum are you? you're using it as a soapbox on which to give your own personal views. You even answered your own question, leaving no room for other views.

I'd be interested in knowing exactly what you mean when you say that Satan is running rampant with doubts and discouragements. What about deeply religious people, as well as non-believers, who would answer your question differently to the way you answered yourself?

Here's an alternative answer, with scriptural reference:

This is from Matthew 12 and Mark 3. Jesus warns that no sin is beyond forgiveness except speaking against the Holy Spirit, which would surely mean that you can lose salvation:

The context is that the Pharisees put into words what everyone's saying, that Jesus casts out devils by the power of Beelzebub the prince of devils (actually a god of another nation).

He turns on them challenging their logic, and ranting that if he does it by Beelzebub, how do Pharisees do it? And he tells them that he is actually disabling Beelzebub in the same way that a burglar ties up a strong man before ransacking his house.

He implies that he drives out devils by the Spirit of God, and he tells them that "He who is not with me is against me..." (Didn't George W Bush say something very like this?)

He then goes on, "And so I tell you this: no sin, no slander, is beyond forgiveness for men, except slander spoken against the Spirit, and that will not be forgiven. Any man who speaks against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but if anyone speaks against the Holy Spirit, for him there is no forgiveness, either in this age or in the age to come."

He carries on, but he seems to be saying that they can insult him, but not what he does because he does it by the Holy Spirit.

  24. There's another way to look at it that most seem to miss.  Yeshua/Jesus said, "My sheep know my voice and they follow Me."  If someone stops FOLLOWING Him, they are no longer His sheep.  And yes, you CAN lose your salvation.  I've seen someone actually commit spiritual suicide.  One needs to always follow Him, always be learning and growing.  We, as sheep, can go astray.

  25. If you are truly saved then you will never lose that!
