I'm 16 and have been playing tennis off and on since 7th grade. My high school is the highest ranked in the state when it comes to 3A tennis. I'm going into Junior year and have qualified for varsity tryouts in August. I have a coach, and have just started playing Junior USTA tournaments. If I am playing tennis every 2 or 3 days, do I have a realistic chance of making varsity at the end of summer? Thanks!

  1. Since you started early in tennis, you should have good experience!

with that type of training too I'm sure you'll make it!

Just don't stress yourself and don't be a loser if you lose or your gonna stress out and lower your self-esteem.. just be your best!

  2. I suggest playing against/hitting with one of the varsity players, and see what you can do. I had no confidence in making even the team at my school, but one of the guys helped me out and now I play varsity 2nd seed singles (he's 1st seed) and we're hitting partners.

Keep your hopes up, and good luck!

  3. That's hard for anyone reading your question to know. Without seeing you play or knowing what the team composition is.

Doing the USTA tournaments is an excellent way to prepare for varsity level competition especially in the AAA divisions. Most success in competitive matchplay comes from intuition and experience. I would recommend you play as many matches against as many different players as you can this summer. Without the proper environment to test what you learn in lessons it's like trying to become a doctor from just reading books. That will also help alleviate your anxiety about making the team and better prepare you.

  4. make sure your are conditioned well! run a lot do a lot of core work (push ups crunches) maybe do weights as well....play more than two or three days a week, if your school is so good then the players must be even better so you have to be as good as you can.. good luck!
