  1. One of the things I see a lot of are people trying to substitute items to make a faux meat recipe or a food that mimics meat food in look but not with meat content. A whole lot of foods can be served in a bread as a sandwich or roll or roll up or even cooked like a calzone. Personally I guess I would not try the burger approach to a food with all the alternatives available to me. Realistically you surely can add chickpeas, or re-fried and hot chickpeas, or sprouted garbanzos to an assorted sandwich recipe. Add lots of stuff. Top with some sour cream if you eat that. Try it all like a taco on a corn or flour tortilla with a lot of drippy fun stuff served with great variety on a platter for meals with friends. Even meat eaters will find they don't miss it. It ain't the meat they like as meat has little flavor but it's the condiments that make it. Leave the meat out and give lots of fresh stuff and flavor foods and everyone will be sated.

  2. This is one I just made recently

16oz Can of chickpeas - drain the fluids off and wash them

    3 table spoons soy flower

3 table spoons whole wheat flower

Mash ingredients together in a bowl using a potato masher.

Add a little water until the stuff can be formed into patties.

fry them up in a little olive oil.

You can also freeze them first to give the veggie protein a different flavor.

  3. Yes - but think about the wind :)

  4. Absolutely!

I make bean burgers a lot.  Just puree some beans, add bread crumbs, an egg, spices, a squirt of catsup and mustard, some diced onion.  Mix to consistancy to make patties, then panfry in a little olive oil and serve with your favorite fixings!

Sometimes I'll roll the patty in some cornmeal before frying.  It gives it a nice crunch!

  5. Yes! You can make burgers out of most vegatables. It's amazing what vegatables can do.

I have been vegan for over 5 years and I have experimented on alot.

    Here is my favorite recipe:

    veggie burgers

    dry mix:

    2/3 c. pure gluten powder

1/3 c. soy or chickpea flour

    4 T. oatmeal

    1 tsp. dry marjoram

    1 tsp. onion powder

    wet mix

    2 T. soy sauce

    2 T. ketchup

1 T. sesame seed oil (optional)

plus enough cold water mixed with the above to make 7/8 c.

1/2 c. textured soy protein granules (tvp) soaked in 1/3 c. boiling water or broth

    cooking broth

    1 c. hot water

    3 T. soy sauce

    1/2 T. sesame seed oil

    2 cloves garlic, crushed

preheat the oven to 325 degrees. mix the dry ingredients and set aside. combine the wet mix, adding in the reconstituted tvp. in a large bowl combine the wet and dry mixes and blend well. be sure to wait until the reconstituted tvp is completely cooled, otherwise the wheat gluten flour may form strings and become clumpy. form into 4 or 6 hamburger shaped patties and in a lightly oiled 9X13 baking dish. pour cooking broth over the patties and cover with aluminum foil. bake for 15 minutes. carefully flip the patties over and continue baking for another fifteen to twenty minutes. remove from heat. they will firm up once they cool. once cool you can fry, grill or freeze them for later use.

  6. INGREDIENTS:

2 cups mashed garbanzo beans (chickpeas)

    1 stalk celery, diced

    1 carrot, grated

    1/2 onion, minced

    1/2 tsp garlic powder

    1/4 cup flour

    salt and pepper to taste

    oil for frying

    PREPARATION:

Mash together all ingredients, except oil, thoroughly. Form into patties and lightly fry on each side in oil until golden brown. You can also barbecue these veggie burgers on a hot grill.

  7. definitely...if you have a bean burger recipe already, just replace whatever bean it calls for with chickpeas.

Here are a few chickpea-specific recipes:

    YES! :)

  10. Of course you can. Mash them and mix them with cooked brown rice or barley add some Tomato or Bechamel Sauce and whatever herbs you like along with granulated onion, granulated garlic, sea salt and Black pepper to taste. Also add some rolled oats or bread crumbs to bind it all together.

Use an ice cream scoop to portion them. Dedge them in crushed bread crumbs or seasoned flour and fry them in Organic Canola Oil.

For a variation on the theme add some minced veggies: onion, carrot, zucchini, whatever.
