Can I make a Phillips Direct TV DSR704 Tivo still work with Direct TV?

My friend gave me a Phillips brand Tivo box. It says "Direct TV" right on it and is model # DSR704. I know Direct TV offers there own dvr recording service instead of Tivo, but is there any way I can still make this Tivo work with my Direct TV? And if so, how do I go about hooking it up? Thanks for any tips!

You should be able to connect it to your account you would need a new access card though. As long as their account was or is in good payment standings.

If you need cables ran to the location you want to put the tivo in you may need someone to run them. Directv uses RG6 cables.  But if you already have cables there connect the satellite cable to satellite in one. if you only have one cable satellite one and two if you have two cables.

Once you have a picture on either channel 201 or 100 you can activate the tivo on your account.
